Amazing hotel, unique and quirky. Really enjoyed our stay here- billiards room and bar for the evening, swimming pool and jacuzzi were great and very clean. Gardens are beautiful. The owner, Allan is so helpful and welcoming, really interesting man. Well definitely stay here again. The furniture and building is old, which I loved but if you prefer modern hotels then this isn’t for you.

This is my second stay. Its still quirky, we love bringing our horses here. Alan is friendly. I read some reviews and anyone who finds an 80+ year old man aggressive who goes out of his way to help us needs to check their head checked. Alan went to buy us salad as we forgot it. Lovely guy, amazing place to stay, it's not 5* be realistic about what you pay

It was excellent because I love buildings with character, and this place has lots in abundance. It also has a snooker table in its own room. (You don't get that in many places). The location is in the heart of the forest and is quiet, tranquil and beautifully located. Alan, the owner, is a down to earth gentleman. I stayed there 1 year ago whilst working an event at the Motor Museum and would chat to him at length in the evenings when he was free to do so. My wife came with me and Alan showed her around the place, let her help him tend his horses and even took her into town to do some shopping when he went. I am staying there again this year whilst working at Beaulieu and can't wait to see Alan again and have some more chats. See you soon Alan from Steve and Joy.

Superb host who is fascinating and friendly. The grounds are amazing and we thoroughly loved our stay with our horses. Great riding directly into the forest. This kind of a place is rare as its very dated and has a huge amount of character. If you are expecting pristine Premier Inn style don't go. If you want character, experience and relaxation t then go.

I was unsure what to expect since the reviews here are quite mixed, but in the end I had a lovely time. This is an old hotel set in peaceful surroundings. Alan the owner was very kind and friendly to me as I was travelling alone - we had lots of great chats. I liked the character of the place, with the billiards room, art and taxidermy etc. If you like quirky hotels with history and character then this is for you.

My daughter had been twice before with friends, and this time, she and I went along with her two horses. We had the most wonderful experience. Beautiful grounds, beautiful weather, and Alan is the most lovely man, so happy to help, we even joined him on a few occasions, great company. From the hotel we went straight on to the forest. Yes,we sometimes struggled with phone reception, but we were on holiday. Definitely a place for a holiday, not business. The horses were very happy, which was all we needed. Had a great day riding to a pub, miles away for a pub lunch, escorted by Alan. We were very sad to leave, but, we have arranged to go back same time next year. Thank you so much for everything Alan, see you next year.

Absolute slice of heaven! Such an incredible and unique house, it feels like you’re stepping back in time. Alan is one of the loveliest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. He very kindly offered to take me and my horse for a ride with his gorgeous forest pony Smokey. We were out for hours talking away, even stopping at a pub with pens for the ponies. It was a lifelong dream come true, only made better by the pleasure of his company. We really enjoyed exploring the house, every wall has something historic to catch your eye. Going up to the observation tower is a must! Hope to be returning as soon as possible, having to leave was the only bad part. Would stay forever if I could!

This is my second time coming here with my friends with our horses. This time for a hen do with the horses. Just as great as the first time. The hacking (and location) is incredible. Alan is such a lovely man and works so hard to make sure his guests are happy. He even offered to take us out riding with horse and checks on the horses for us. He also offered to pop to the shop for us. The hotel isn't a 5* hotel but we knew that and as long as our horses are happy it didn't matter. It is quirky so make sure you remember that before thinking its a fancy place that you're used to and booking it on a business trip. We will definitely be coming back for a 3rd time.
